We Honor Those Who Served

Today, July 3, we will be closed for the Independence Day holiday; thank you for understanding! In honor of this special holiday, we want to say thank you to those who have served and continue to serve in order make our country safe. It was a blessing to be able to recognize some of the veterans in our own congregation at the Annual Patriotic Concert this past Saturday. We hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and we will see you Sunday morning.

Sixth Grade Adventure

Every year, Student Ministries is excited to introduce the new Sixth Graders to the Middle & High School students here at Lakewood! This is a two day “lock-in” style event on July 30 – 31. The heart of this event is to build relationships and community while giving students a taste of what we do in Student Ministry. One of the most important aspects of faith development in Middle School students is that they feel a part of a community that is following Jesus together. It can be hard without those relationships. We start their Student Ministry experience off with an opportunity to build that community while doing some of the things that we do every week: playing together, sharing meals together, looking at scripture together, worshipping together and more.

Weekly Life-Giving Moment

I was in the mall a few days ago and went up to an elderly gentleman with a beautiful service dog. After asking if I could pet the dog, the Holy Spirit emboldened me to ask how I could pray for him. He said he has pretty serious health problems and we prayed together about them, right then.

Embracing Holiness

This past Sunday we started a new sermon series on the topic of “holiness”. In this series we are walking through the book of 1 Peter. Peter wrote this letter to be shared with multiple churches in the region which is now modern-day Turkey. Many people live mundane, repetitive, status quo lives where their Monday through Friday routine is very predictable. It is not a bad life, but it is not a great life. Many of us have wondered, “is this all there is?” Scripture tells us that God’s plan is for people live lives filled with adventure and blessings; not boredom.

In this week’s sermon, we saw how Peter reminds us that we have been saved through the grace of God in Jesus. However, many people live lives that…
