Murara School Project Update

As shared in Pastor John’s special message, our church had the opportunity to adopt an underfunded school in Murara, Kenya. Since the beginning of our partnership with them, our congregation has cast its love and generosity around these students and teachers. The best part is that you all were able to help provide their needs, and we are so excited to announce that the Murara School now has a floor, finished walls, desks, and upgraded windows!

Weekly Life-Giving Moment

“Due to circumstances, I have been unable to connect personally with my Jesus people. Though woven together in Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit, being strengthened with other members of His body is vital to spiritual well-being. After missing two weekly Zoom meetings, I was able to reconnect with my Band. Though it was not face-to-face, being able to see and hear the shared struggles and successes of trusted Christians does wonders for the soul. I thank the Lord for living out this pattern for intimate growing in Christ-filled relationships. I am thankful for John Wesley’s reemphasizing this pattern and for places like Seedbed and hearts like our pastors for facilitating such growth. And I thank my Band ladies for refilling my soul with deep life-giving moments. For the glory of God our Father.”

What is Estate Planning?

What Is Estate Planning & How Can I Learn More?

The Permanent Endowment Fund sponsored an estate planning seminar on May 19, 2024, Generational Blessings: Stewardship and Cultivating Family Unity in Estate Planning with guest speaker Christine Butts. Christine is a board-certified Probate and Estate Planning and law specialist and former probate court judge. The seminar was attended by more than 50 Lakewood members and guests. It was very informative, and Christine answered many questions, providing insight to a variety of topics. For more information about cultivating your legacy at Lakewood or Estate Planning please contact Calvin Cobb, Permanent Endowment Fund Trustees Chair. Together, you and Lakewood will leave an important legacy in Northwest Houston.

Christine Butts also provided several brochures related to the subjects covered in the seminar. You can access these brochures below:

Matzke Supply Drive This Sunday

We will have a table in the Commons to collect much needed items for Matzke students and teachers. Families of many of these students cannot afford basic school supplies. The items we will be collecting are:

Tissues

Crayons

Composition Notebooks (wide-ruled)

Expo Markers

Backpacks

Pencil Boxes/Cases

Post-It Notes

Military Coupon Request

We are continuing to trim coupons to send to the military bases overseas, but the paper seems to include fewer and fewer coupon booklets lately.  For those who still take the paper, please consider leaving any unused coupons at the church.  We can take coupons expired up to three months back, as well as those from the current month forward.  We appreciate your help with this important ministry to our military overseas.
