If you cannot pay all of your bills, Dave Ramsey recommends prioritizing your spending on these four items first and in this order: Food, Utilities, Shelter, and Transportation.

If you’re still unable to cover all of your expenses, consider the following steps:
Call creditors to explain your situation and request temporary relief on your monthly payments. Offering to send some money, even if it’s less than your usual payment, may increase their willingness to cooperate.
For federal student loans, you can choose to forbear (with interest accrual) or defer (interest doesn’t accrue on subsidized federal loans) your loan payments.
Use this questionnaire for student loans to explore available options.
If you’re currently making extra payments on debts and have less than one to two months’ worth of expenses in an emergency fund, consider pausing extra payments temporarily and resuming them once your situation stabilizes.
If possible, enroll in health insurance.
