Call to Worship
Ascribe to the LORD, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.
The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic . . .
The LORD gives strength to His people; the LORD blesses His people with peace.
Refer: Psalm 29:1-4,11
Thanksgiving
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for making a way for us when there was, “No way!” You go before us and behind us; You are with us and, with the Holy Spirit, live within us. You make the rugged places level. Your voice cuts through the darkness with an invitation to keep in step with Your pace, and Your peace. Together, may we share Your words of comfort and encouragement with the people You place in our way.
Scripture Reading
1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and cry to her
that her warfare is ended,
that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
double for all her sins.
3 A voice cries:
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord;
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be lifted up,
and every mountain and hill be made low;
the uneven ground shall become level,
and the rough places a plain.
5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
and all flesh shall see it together,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Refer: Isaiah 40:1-5
Prayer of Intercession
I arise today, through God’s strength to pilot me,
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s host to save me from snares of devils,
From temptation of vices, from everyone who shall wish me ill, afar and near.
–St. Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer for Protection
Holy Spirit, we invite You to wash us clean as we prepare to meet each new day in Christ. Watch over and protect students and their families, teachers and other staff members as they continue a new time of schooling. We pray for Lakewood’s Little People Preschool which begins again today. May every child experience Your unconditional love, grow in faith and thrive in every stage of early development and may every adult leader be blessed to know Your nearness and joyfully love and teach Your “little ones.” We pray that we hear Your voice in the ‘busyness’ of chaotic days. Thank You for Your guiding comfort and peace. In Jesus’ name, we pray.
As The Spirit Leads
Please continue in prayer for any personal, church, community, nation, or world needs, concerns, or thanksgivings.
Lord’s Prayer
Let us close by praying the words that Jesus taught.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Refer: Matthew 6:9–13
Thank you for joining us in prayer. We hope you join us tomorrow.
The LORD bless you and keep you.
The LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
—Numbers 6:24–26
