As Lakewood Methodist Church celebrates 50 years of ministry, this initiative is designed to help people return to one of the foundations of Christian life: seeking God through prayer.

The goal is simple but powerful: encourage individuals, families, and the broader community to spend time each day worshiping, listening, and praying in the name of Jesus.

Introducing the “In Jesus’ Name” Prayer Initiative at Lakewood Methodist Church

The “In Jesus’ Name” Prayer Initiative was created to help people develop a deeper, more consistent relationship with God through daily prayer. 

At the center of the initiative is a newly launched online Prayer Portal, providing accessible resources that guide individuals through moments of worship, reflection, and intercession. Whether someone has been praying for decades or is learning how to pray for the first time, the Prayer Portal offers a simple starting point. The resources include:

• Calls to worship from Scripture
• Daily thanksgiving reflections
• Guided Bible readings
• Monthly prayers of intercession
• Spirit-led prayer prompts
• The Lord’s Prayer

By combining Scripture with guided reflection, the Prayer Portal helps remove some of the barriers people often experience when beginning a prayer routine. Many people want to pray but are unsure where to begin. They may wonder:

Participants are encouraged to spend 15–30 minutes each day using the Prayer Portal as a guide for:

• Reflecting on God’s character
• Giving thanks
• Bringing personal concerns before God
• Praying for others
• Seeking God’s direction

In July of 2026, America recognized its 250th anniversary; a milestone marking centuries of sacrifice, freedom, and change. For Lakewood Methodist Church, this moment provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of prayer in every generation.

As Lakewood Methodist Church celebrates 50 years of ministry, and as America celebrates 250 years of freedom, the church is looking ahead by returning to a foundational practice that has shaped believers for centuries: Prayer.

Scripture at the Center of the Prayer Initiative

The “In Jesus’ Name” Prayer Initiative is rooted in biblical truth. Rather than offering generic encouragement, the Prayer Portal points participants back to Scripture as the foundation for prayer. Featured passages include:

→ Psalm 113: Psalm 113 calls believers to praise the name of the Lord and recognize His greatness and compassion. It reminds us that God is both powerful above all things and attentive to His people.

→ Lamentations 3: Lamentations 3 highlights God’s faithfulness and mercy, especially during difficult seasons. The passage reminds believers that God’s compassion is renewed each morning.

→ Matthew 22: Matthew 22 emphasizes Jesus’ command to love God fully and love others. Prayer helps believers align their hearts with God’s greatest commandments.

→ Matthew 6: Matthew 6 provides Jesus’ teaching on prayer, including the Lord’s Prayer, showing believers how to approach God with humility and trust.

By grounding prayer in Scripture, the initiative helps participants move beyond simply speaking words and toward understanding who God is.
